Dollar Holds Steady Ahead of Jackson Hole Speech

The US dollar was relatively stable on Thursday after various economic data releases. The dollar index edged up by 0.05% to 99.18, with the euro down 0.03% at $1.1646.

Erik Bregar, director of FX and precious metals risk management at Silver Gold Bull in Toronto, stated that the FX market is 'in a bit of a trance.' He attributed this to the conflicting messages from Federal Reserve officials, particularly regarding Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's plan to double the size of quarterly repurchases of longer-dated bonds.

Market participants are looking forward to Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's speech at the Jackson Hole symposium on Friday. However, many expect him to refrain from offering any guidance on monetary policy.
