Dollar Index Falls on Weak Economic Data; USD/INR Trades at 95-96
The US dollar index fell to an intraday low of 99.47 on Friday due to weak economic data, including July retail sales and consumer confidence that came in below market expectations.
July retail sales dropped 0.6% month-over-month, the sharpest decline since May 2025, reversing June's revised 0.2% gain.
The University of Michigan's preliminary August consumer sentiment index moderated to 51.0 from 55.2 in June, adding to the dollar's losses.
