Dollar Plummets Against Yen After Joint Market Intervention
On Monday, August 3, 2026, the US dollar plummeted against the Japanese yen after market interventions by both countries. The dollar had previously touched 40-year highs at above 163 yen but fell to nearly 155.20 yen following the joint action.
The intervention was confirmed by US President Donald Trump and Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama, who stated that their respective countries had coordinated efforts to support the yen.
Trump cited a 'good relationship' between the two nations as a reason for the intervention, adding that it would help Japan's economy. He also mentioned that the US would continue to work with Japan on this issue and that it was beneficial for both parties involved.
