Dollar Rallies as Fed Chief Pledges Hawkish Inflation Fight
The US dollar rallied on August 29, 2026, after Federal Reserve chief Kevin Warsh signaled his priority to combat high inflation in a highly anticipated speech at the Jackson Hole symposium.
Warsh emphasized that fighting inflation must be done with confidence and speed, stating 'We must be confident that underlying inflation is moving to our objective, clearly and at sufficient speed. Otherwise, we have work to do.' The Fed's target inflation rate is 2%, but current inflation stands at nearly double this figure at 3.7%.
The speech sparked a surge in short-term US Treasury bond yields, indicating increased expectations of a higher Federal Reserve interest rate. Futures markets also raised the odds of a rate hike in September, and the dollar jumped against major currencies such as the euro.
