Dollar Rallies on Middle East Tensions and AI Fears
The US dollar has surged to a two-week high due to rising tensions in the Middle East and concerns over artificial intelligence. The uptick in oil prices, driven by strikes on Saudi Arabia, has investors seeking safe-haven assets, with the dollar being their preferred choice.
Concurrently, worries about AI expressed by leading CEOs have contributed to a decline in stocks, further solidifying the dollar's strength. Additionally, speculation surrounding a potential Federal Reserve rate hike has added to its momentum.
The US dollar index rose almost 0.5% to 99.59, marking its highest point since September 2. The euro dipped to a one-month low, with more than a 0.5% decline, and the British pound fell by 0.4%. Brent crude surged 3% to $108 per barrel, unsettling investors and driving global bond yields toward multi-year highs.
Rising energy supply concerns, amid stalled diplomacy between the US and Iran and regional shipping attacks, have exacerbated the situation.
