Dollar Recovers Amid Oil Price Surge and ECB Rate Hike
Currency markets were relatively stable on Thursday as investors grappled with the implications of rising oil prices and the European Central Bank's (ECB) rate hike. The dollar managed to regain ground against major currencies, recovering some losses incurred earlier in the week due to climbing oil costs and increasing bond yields.
The euro experienced a slight decline after the ECB implemented its widely anticipated interest rate increase. This move aims to combat inflationary pressures exacerbated by the ongoing conflict in Iran.
As a result of these developments, the euro dipped 0.02%, trading at $1.1629 against the dollar. Meanwhile, the dollar showed strength against the Swiss franc, climbing 0.16% to reach 0.8112.
The dollar index, which measures the currency's value against a basket of others, inched up 0.09% to 98.91. This increase puts the dollar on track to potentially end its string of three consecutive days of losses.
