Dollar Rises Amid Stock Weakness and Iran Economic Isolation Plans
The US dollar index DXY rose by +0.17% on Tuesday due to weakness in stocks and a stronger-than-expected report on the July Chicago Fed national activity index.
US Treasury Secretary Bessent plans to detail Iran's economic isolation at a press conference later today, which is expected to further boost the dollar.
The euro, however, suffered from dollar strength and comments from ECB Executive Board member Piero Cipollone that raising interest rates could dampen economic growth.
The yen also lost ground due to weak interest rate differentials, but gains in crude oil prices and expectations of a BOJ rate hike provided some support.
