Dollar Rises in Cuba's Informal Market Amidst Persistent Currency Shortage
The informal currency market in Cuba concluded its trading session on September 9, 2026. The US dollar saw significant gains, increasing by 2.5 Cuban pesos to close at 688 CUP. This represents a 1.5% rise over the past week and a 17.5 peso increase from last month.
The euro maintained its stability compared to the previous session but has gained 7.5 pesos in the past week, reaching 778 CUP. However, it's essential to note that these changes may be influenced by methodological adjustments.
The Freely Convertible Currency (MLC) experienced a slight uptick from its opening value, rising to approximately 465 CUP due to low transaction volume. The MLC remains volatile, with a circulation restricted to state-run stores accepting it due to its lack of physical form.
