Dollar Slips Amid Iran Halt and Global Monetary Uncertainty
The US dollar experienced a softer tone on Monday as tensions in Iran seemed to ease, contributing to lower oil prices and increased risk appetite. The euro gained 0.1% against the dollar, reaching $1.1374, while the yen saw a slight loss of 0.1% against the dollar at 163.69. Meanwhile, the pound slipped back from early gains, trading about 0.1% lower at $1.3308.
The drop in oil prices was significant, with Brent crude tumbling 7.5% to $89.42 per barrel. This followed Iran's statement that it would cease hostilities if the US maintained its bombing halt, sparking hopes for diplomatic conflict resolution.
Ahead of a critical Federal Reserve meeting, analysts remain uncertain about economic signals from the US and potential rate changes. The probability of a Fed rate hike has decreased to 33%, according to the FedWatch tool. New Fed Chair Kevin Warsh has provided minimal insight into future policy actions.
