Dollar Slips Below 152 Yen Amid BOJ Rate Hike Speculation
The US dollar briefly dropped into the 152 yen range in Tokyo on Tuesday morning, its first visit to this zone since February. This movement occurred amid speculation that the Bank of Japan will decide to raise interest rates at its upcoming policy meeting next week.
The dollar had fetched around 153.35-36 yen by noon after hitting approximately 152.90 yen, compared to 154.28-29 yen in London at 4 p.m. and 155.55-56 yen in Tokyo on Monday evening.
US markets were closed due to a national holiday on Monday. The dollar's weakness was attributed to growing expectations that the interest rate differential between Japan and the United States would narrow, following the release of stronger-than-expected nonfarm payrolls data on Friday.
