Dollar Slumps to Seven-Week Low Amid Yen Surge
The US dollar has continued its decline, reaching a seven-week low of 99.8 at the start of August. The Japanese yen is a key factor in this slide, as it surged after the US Treasury bought more yen with its euro holdings.
This move magnified the initial yen rebound when Tokyo intervened in the currency market. The dollar's decline follows the Federal Reserve's last meeting, where rates were left unchanged as expected.
Fed Chairman Warsh signaled some reluctance to confirm a rate hike in response to higher inflation, leading foreign markets to trim their holdings of dollar-denominated assets.
