Dollar Soars as Oil Prices Climb Back Above $100
The US dollar continued its upward trend against several major currencies, including the Vietnamese dong. It reached a three-week high as oil prices climbed back above $100 a barrel for the first time since May after Yemen's Houthis struck two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea.
The greenback held steady near 101.45 against a basket of currencies after a 0.3% rise overnight, while the yen hovered around a 40-year low at 163.86 per dollar.
In Vietnam, the State Bank hiked its reference rate by 0.04% to VND25,283, but the actual value of the dong on the black market remained relatively stable, trading at around VND26,360.
