Dollar Soars in Cuba's Informal Market Amid Ongoing Currency Shortages
The informal currency market in Cuba closed on Wednesday, September 9, with mixed results. The US dollar finished higher, while the euro remained unchanged.
The greenback's value rose to 688 Cuban pesos (CUP), a 2.5 peso increase from the previous day and a 10 peso rise from last week. This represents an increase of 1.5% over the past week and 17.5 pesos over the past month.
The euro, on the other hand, closed at 778 CUP, showing no changes compared to the previous session. However, it has gained 7.5 pesos from last week and is still considered the most expensive currency on the Cuban parallel market.
