Dollar Stabilizes, Euro Falls in Informal Cuban Market
The informal currency market in Cuba closed on Friday, August 7, 2026, with stability for the US dollar but a decline for the euro. The USD ended at 673 Cuban pesos (CUP), unchanged from the previous day and matching its value seven days ago. This sustained stability is notable in the short term, though the dollar has fluctuated between 655 and 675 CUP over the past month.
The euro, on the other hand, declined by two pesos to 783 CUP compared to the previous day's rate of 785 CUP. From a weekly perspective, it also fell by two pesos from its value a week ago. However, when looking at the last thirty days, the euro has gained 25.5 CUP (3.4%) over the 758 CUP mark from thirty days ago.
The MLC (a digital currency) is quoted around 453 CUP, but with caution due to limited data during this period. This value should be considered indicative rather than definitive. The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba remains far below informal market values, with a gap of 55 pesos in the case of the dollar and 70 pesos for the euro.
