Dollar Steadies Ahead of Warsh's Jackson Hole Speech
The dollar index held steady at around 99.1 on Friday as investors waited for Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's speech at the annual Jackson Hole symposium.
Warsh's comments are expected to provide clues about the outlook for US interest rates, with markets currently pricing in a 65% chance that the Fed will keep rates unchanged at the upcoming September meeting.
The dollar was on track to end the week slightly higher due to a hotter-than-expected US inflation reading this week, which supported expectations of a Fed rate increase before year-end. The probability of a hike by December remains above 70%.
