Dollar Surges as Oil Prices Climb, Fed Hike Odds Slip
The US dollar experienced a surge on Monday as oil prices increased, setting the stage for an upcoming consumer price inflation report. This development comes after Friday's disappointing jobs report, which adjusted expectations about a Federal Reserve rate hike.
Adam Button, chief currency analyst at investingLive, attributed the shift in expectations to the poor jobs report and revised data. 'September was starting to look highly likely, but a poor jobs report and terrible revisions changed the outlook,' he said.
The dollar index rose 0.15% to 99.76, while the euro slipped 0.1% to $1.1546. The Japanese yen plummeted 0.75% against the dollar, marking its sharpest daily drop in months.
