Dollar Surges in Cuba's Informal Market Amid Economic Pressure
The US dollar has surged in Cuba's informal market, reaching 673 Cuban pesos (CUP) on Friday. This represents a three-peso increase from Thursday and a 10-peso gain over the past week.
In contrast, the euro has slightly decreased to 758 CUP from 760 CUP the day before. The MLC (Freely Convertible Currency) has risen to 469 CUP, increasing from 458 CUP on Thursday.
The dollar's increase is exerting pressure on the Cuban peso, with several days of relative stability preceding this surge. The official market rate remains lower than the informal market rate, with the Central Bank maintaining the Segment III rate at 634 CUP per dollar and 739 CUP per euro.
