Dollar Weakens Broadly Against Yen and Euro
The US dollar weakened broadly against major currencies in the Tokyo foreign exchange market on the 21st, with the dollar-yen pair slipping to the upper 158 range.
Dollar-yen traded at 158.97 yen as of midday, approximately 8 sen weaker than the New York close of 159.05 yen. The pair lost steam after real-demand buying ahead of the Tokyo fixing for the weekend ran its course, with moments of softening to 158.87 yen.
The dollar's weakness was also evident against the euro, with the euro-dollar standing at $1.1696 as of midday, roughly 0.0018 dollars stronger than the New York close of $1.1678.
