Dollar Weakens Sharply Against Yen After Market Intervention
The US dollar experienced a significant decline against the Japanese yen following market interventions by both countries.
Before the intervention, the dollar was trading at a 40-year high of 163 yen. However, after regulators were suspected of stepping in, it fell below 160 yen.
Following an official announcement of the intervention on Monday, the dollar dropped about 1% to 156.34 yen, marking a significant change in the exchange rate.
The prolonged weakness of the yen against the dollar had been causing concern for Tokyo, as it can lead to higher prices and increased inflation due to Japan's reliance on imports.
