Dollar-Yen Pauses Around 159 as Oil Prices and Interest Rates Remain Supportive
The dollar-yen pair has shown resilience in foreign exchange trading, limiting losses and holding steady around the 159 level. The pair briefly slipped to 159.59 yen on the 18th but recovered modestly and remained within the mid-to-upper 159 range.
NYMEX WTI crude futures softened toward $84 per barrel, but the decline was contained, and U.S. 10-year Treasury yields remained firm, keeping the dollar-buying bias intact.
The euro-dollar pair climbed to $1.1612, approaching its June 17 high, while euro-yen hit a fresh intraday high of 184.53 yen.
Oil prices and the widening Japan-U.S. interest rate differential continue to underpin dollar-yen, supporting expectations that the U.S. Federal Reserve will maintain tighter monetary policy.
