Dollar/Yen Rangebound Amid Uncertainty, Aussie Dollar Recovers After RBA Holds Steady
The dollar/yen pair traded in a tight range around 158 yen throughout Tokyo's foreign exchange market on August 11.
Market participants noted that while expectations of higher crude oil prices and U.S. interest rates underpinned the dollar, there was a scarcity of fresh catalysts to drive further upside.
The Reserve Bank of Australia's (RBA) policy rate announcement took center stage, with the Australian dollar initially selling off before recovering to near pre-announcement levels.
The RBA held its policy rate steady as widely expected by markets, and the prevailing market view is that the central bank's maintained stance on curbing inflation serves as a medium- to long-term supportive factor for the Australian dollar.
