The dollar-yen pair saw a soft tone in New York foreign exchange trading on August 27. As of midnight, the pair stood at 159.33 yen per dollar, a slight decline from the 10 p.m. level of 159.41 yen. Broad-based dollar selling emerged after New York players entered the market.

The market remained largely directionless ahead of Fed Chair Warsh's speech at the Jackson Hole Symposium on August 28. Market participants were eager to gauge whether he would offer views on current inflationary pressures and rising interest rates. The pair briefly dipped to around 159.28 yen but traders refrained from aggressively testing the downside.

The EUR/USD struggled to extend gains, with the euro standing at $1.1644 as of midnight, up about 0.0003 dollars from the 10 p.m. level of $1.1641. The pair briefly touched an intraday high of $1.1660 but upside momentum stalled as it approached near-term resistance.

Market attention is now focused on Fed Chair Warsh's speech, which could significantly sway the trajectory of major currency pairs.
