Dollar-Yen Surges Past 158 as Yen Weakness Deepens
The dollar-yen pair broke into the 158 range on the morning of the 10th, marking a significant rebound from its early morning lows in Tokyo foreign exchange trading.
The pair started trading at 157.67 yen and climbed to 157.95 yen by the latter half of the 7 a.m. hour before stalling momentarily.
However, the pace of gains accelerated heading into the 10 a.m. hour, with the pair temporarily rising to 158.14 yen, its session high.
The euro-yen pair also exhibited firm price action, trading up from 182.30 yen to 182.73 yen and tracking the dollar-yen's ascent.
Market voices noted that 'the dollar is dominant against both the euro and the yen, while the euro remains resilient against the yen, making the yen's weakness particularly conspicuous.'
The divergence in monetary policy direction between Japan and the United States is seen as a key factor driving the yen's weakness.
Achieving large-scale monetary easing, the Bank of Japan maintains lower interest rates compared to the U.S. Federal Reserve, which continues to raise interest rates.
