The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped lower in early Monday trading as investors braced for key inflation data and corporate earnings. The blue-chip index stood at 53,937.14 as of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time, down 99.79 points or 0.18% from Friday's record close.

The pullback came after the Dow closed at an all-time high on Friday, one of several record closes over the past two weeks. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were similarly subdued in early trading, hovering near the flatline as investors weighed geopolitical uncertainty, upcoming inflation figures, and second-quarter earnings season.

Market analyst Daniela Hathorn noted that last week's weak U.S. jobs report had shifted investor expectations toward a more cautious Federal Reserve, with markets gaining confidence that the central bank 'will not need to raise rates after all when it meets next month.'
