Dow Jones Plunges 328 Points Amidst Rising Inflation Fears
The Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeted by 328 points on Tuesday as investors grew increasingly anxious ahead of the Federal Reserve's rate decision, scheduled for Wednesday. This decline marks the latest in a series of down days for U.S. stocks, with Treasury yields surging and global bond markets diving.
According to Melissa Brown, global head of investment decision research at SimCorp, investors are finally catching up with concerns over rising inflation, high oil prices, and growing government debt. 'Markets want at least a little bit of guidance so that they can get their head around,' she noted.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index also suffered a decline, closing at 7,585.73, down 34.25 points or 0.45 percent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished the day at 52,093.11, while the NASDAQ Composite ended at 25,981.57.
