Dow Plunges as Oil Prices Soar and Middle East Tensions Escalate
The Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeted 1.21% on September 8 as crude oil prices surged and Middle East tensions intensified, raising concerns about inflation and the Federal Reserve's interest-rate outlook.
Oil prices rose sharply, with Brent crude reaching $98.28 a barrel and U.S. crude rising to around $93.40, according to Reuters. The jump came after renewed hostilities in the Middle East raised concerns about potential disruptions to energy supplies.
The Dow was the biggest decliner among the three major U.S. indexes, with the S&P 500 falling 0.49% and the Nasdaq Composite slipping 0.52%. Investors are also preparing for key U.S. inflation data later this week, which could influence expectations for the Federal Reserve's next policy decision.
