Druckenmiller Dives into Bitcoin Miners with $125M Bet
Stanley Druckenmiller, one of Wall Street's most successful hedge fund managers, has invested $125.6 million in Bitcoin mining stocks through his family office. This marks a significant change from October 2023, when he said he owned no Bitcoin but thought he probably should.
The funds were invested in Bitdeer Technologies ($64.7 million), Hut 8 ($36.3 million), Riot Platforms ($20.7 million), and IREN ($4 million). Druckenmiller's family office holds a $5.21 billion portfolio, making this investment roughly 2.4% of its total value.
This move is notable given Druckenmiller's impressive track record, he has not had a single year of loss for over 30 years and boasts an average annual return of 30%. His previous experience includes helping George Soros make $1 billion by betting against the British pound in 1992.
Druckenmiller bypassed investing directly in Bitcoin, opting instead to buy electricity through miners. This approach allows him to capture the value of mining operations while avoiding the volatility associated with direct investment in cryptocurrencies.
