Dutch Central Bank Moves $11.6 Billion in Gold from North America
The De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) has relocated its gold reserves from North America to London and the Netherlands. Between March and August 2026, approximately 86 tons of gold were transferred from storage facilities in New York and Ottawa.
This relocation increased holdings at the Bank of England to 32.1 percent of the national reserve, up from 18.1 percent. The central bank sold around 59 tons of gold in New York and repurchased an equivalent volume meeting modern international trade standards in London.
DNB Governor Olaf Sleijpen stated that this relocation has improved the tradability of their gold reserves, adding 'we expect that we will never need to use them, but we do need to strengthen our resilience and preparedness.'
