Dutch Central Bank Moves Billions in Gold Amid Geopolitical Unrest
The Dutch Central Bank (DNB) has relocated approximately 86 tonnes of gold from North America to London, citing concerns over 'increasing geopolitical unrest.' The operation, which took place between March and August, aimed to enhance the bank's resilience in light of global uncertainties.
According to DNB, the relocation consisted of transferring 27 tonnes of gold bars to the Netherlands, followed by a similar amount to London without melting the bars down. This approach prioritized maintaining the integrity of the gold.
The remaining gold was shifted through selling and repurchasing in New York and London markets. The bank's president, Olaf Sleijpen, emphasized the importance of holding gold with the Bank of England for easier trading opportunities during crisis situations.
