Dutch Central Bank Moves Gold from US and Canada to UK Amid Rising Tensions
The Dutch central bank (DNB) has relocated approximately 86 tons of gold from its reserves held in the U.S. and Canada to London, citing 'crisis preparedness' due to increasing geopolitical unrest.
This move represents just over one-quarter of the DNB's total gold reserves held abroad, transferred between March and August this year.
The gold is now stored with the Bank of England, which meets international trade standards and allows for quick and direct utilization in a crisis situation.
'With this relocation, we have improved the tradability of our gold reserves. We expect that we will never need to use them, but we do need to strengthen our resilience and preparedness,' said DNB Governor Olaf Sleijpen.
