Dutch Central Bank Relocates 86 Tons of Gold Amid Geopolitical Uncertainty
The Dutch central bank, De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), has relocated 86 tons of gold from New York and Ottawa to London in a strategic move aimed at enhancing its readiness for potential financial crises.
This operation, which took place over six months from March to August, involves transferring the precious commodity to the Bank of England. DNB emphasized that moving gold to London facilitates quicker access to the asset in urgent situations.
The bank currently maintains a total of 612 tons of gold, with 18.5% still stored in New York and Ottawa after this significant reassessment.
UBS analyst Paul Donovan noted that while the immediate market impact of such transactions might be minimal, the actions signal deeper issues regarding trust and the U.S. role as a stable financial haven.
