Dutch Central Bank Relocates Gold Reserves to London Amid Global Unrest
The Dutch central bank has relocated billions of dollars worth of its gold reserves from North America to London, citing 'crisis preparedness' in a time of global political unrest.
Between March and August, some 86 metric tons (94.8 tons) of gold were transferred to the Bank of England, which now holds approximately 25% of the Dutch bank's total gold reserves.
The move aims to improve the tradability of the gold reserves, according to the central bank's governor, Olaf Sleijpen, who stated that 'we expect that we will never need to use them, but we do need to strengthen our resilience and preparedness.'
As part of this relocation, some 27 metric tons of gold were physically transferred from New York and Canada to the Dutch bank's vault on a military base near Zeist.
