The Dutch central bank De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) has relocated nearly 86 tonnes of gold from North America to the Bank of England. This move aims to make the reserves more readily available in a crisis, as stated by DNB governor Olaf Sleijpen.

Between March and August 2026, DNB transferred 86 tonnes of gold out of the total 313 tonnes previously held in the US and Canada.

The relocation has significantly reduced the amount of gold held in New York, from 31.3 per cent to 18.5 per cent of DNB's total gold reserves. Ottawa reserves have also decreased, from 19.7 per cent to 18.5 per cent.
