Dutch Central Bank Transfers $10 Billion in Gold to London
The Dutch central bank, De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), has relocated roughly $10 billion worth of gold bars from the United States and Canada to vaults at the Bank of England in London. This move is part of a broader effort by DNB to consolidate its gold reserves in a single, highly liquid market.
The decision to transfer the gold was cited as a precautionary measure for crisis preparedness, allowing the reserves to be deployed more quickly during a severe financial or geopolitical emergency. The Bank of England remains one of the world's principal centers for physical gold trading, offering deeper liquidity than storage sites in North America.
The Netherlands holds gold reserves worth about $83.7 billion across domestic and foreign locations, making it one of the larger sovereign holders in Europe. This transfer represents a portion of that total, consolidating more of the country's bullion in a single market.
