Dutch Central Bank Transfers Gold from North America to London
The Dutch central bank has moved 86 tonnes of gold from New York and Ottawa to London over the past six months. This transfer, which amounts to 27.5% of the gold held in North America by the bank, is aimed at improving tradability and ensuring preparedness for any potential crisis.
The gold stored with the Bank of England is considered the world's most easily tradable gold and would be readily available in a crisis situation.
Central Bank president Olaf Sleijpen stated that while the bank expects not to need these reserves, it has decided to strengthen its resilience and preparedness by transferring them.
