The European Central Bank (ECB) and Brazil's central bank are exploring a potential link between their instant payment systems. If successful, this could be the first cross-border expansion of Pix, Brazil's highly popular payment platform.

According to sources, technical teams on both sides are assessing whether such an interconnection is feasible. A pilot project could be launched in 2028 if the initiative advances as planned.

The discussions reflect a willingness by both parties to explore new possibilities. The ECB has already identified Pix as a 'currency corridor under exploration' for its TARGET Instant Payment Settlement (TIPS) platform.
