ECB Asks Europeans to Vote on New Euro Banknote Designs
The European Central Bank (ECB) is inviting people across Europe to participate in an online survey to help decide on the design of new euro banknotes. The ECB has shortlisted 10 designs based on two themes: 'European culture' and 'Rivers and birds'.
The redesign aims to keep euro banknotes secure as counterfeiting technology develops, with improved security features and more sustainable materials and production methods. The existing denominations from €5 to €200 will be retained for the new series, while the €500 note remains in circulation but is no longer issued.
Anyone can take part in the online survey, regardless of age, nationality or country of residence, until September 21. The public vote will help inform the ECB's Governing Council decision, which is expected around the end of 2026.
