ECB Designs Digital Euro App for Higher Accessibility
The European Central Bank (ECB) has announced that its planned digital euro app will be designed to exceed EU accessibility standards. The app, which was first presented in a progress report released in October 2025, is intended as an alternative for users when banking apps do not work.
The ECB selected 36 payment service providers on July 14 and they will participate in a 12-month pilot starting in the second half of 2027 to test the system before making an issuance decision. The digital euro app plan includes improved visual elements, full keyboard navigation, screen reader support, timeout warnings, plain language, error prevention, and reduced-motion settings.
