ECB Enhances EUREP Facility Amid Global Economic Uncertainty
The European Central Bank has been enhancing its liquidity line policies to ensure they support market functioning in the euro area.
In February 2026, the ECB Governing Council introduced further enhancements to EUREP, expanding its scope and global reach. This included permanently onboarding eligible central banks and broadening geographical coverage. The facility is now open to all interested central banks, except those excluded due to concerns such as money laundering or international sanctions.
The revisions aimed to increase the speed of liquidity provision in times of need while maintaining high-quality euro-denominated collateral for backstop liquidity provision. This reflects the ECB's efforts to address potential financial disruptions and their impact on euro area markets.
