ECB Executive Dismisses Stagflation Fears Citing Favorable Euro Area Economy
Piero Cipollone, an Executive Board member of the European Central Bank (ECB), has dismissed concerns about stagflation in the euro area, citing a more favorable economic picture compared to the 1970s.
Cipollone attributed the recent spike in head inflation to energy prices, which rose 10.9% year-on-year, driven by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
The ECB's projections suggest that this increase is temporary, with inflation expected to moderate to around 2.8% by June, near its 2% medium-term target.
