ECB Hikes Rates Again Amid Energy Price Concerns
The European Central Bank (ECB) has announced a rate hike of 25 basis points to combat inflation in the euro area. This is the second time this year that the ECB has raised interest rates, following a similar increase in June.
The latest decision brings the key interest rates on the deposit facility, main refinancing operations, and marginal lending facility up to 2.5%, 2.65%, and 2.9% respectively. The move aims to address the ongoing inflationary pressures driven by energy prices.
The ECB's inflation projections for 2027 and 2028 have been revised upwards, with headline inflation expected to average 2.5% in 2027 and 2.1% in 2028. This indicates a higher risk of inflation above the target level for an extended period.
