The European Central Bank (ECB) held interest rates steady at 2.25% on Thursday, despite ongoing uncertainty about energy prices and their impact on inflation.

Central bank analysts say the decision may be a pause to gather more information amid swings in oil prices, which have seen fluctuations since a ceasefire announcement followed by its collapse.

ECB President Christine Lagarde stated that 'uncertainty remains high' and that the full impact of the energy shock has yet to play out. She emphasized that the bank is closely monitoring the situation and will make decisions based on incoming data.

Lagarde also addressed concerns about her future plans, stating that she would not be leaving before the end of her eight-year term in October 2027.
