The European Central Bank (ECB) has launched a redesign of euro banknotes to enhance their security, sustainability, and inclusivity. The ECB aims to choose the final design by the end of the year after collecting public feedback through a vote that ends on September 21st.

The current series of euro banknotes was introduced in 2002 and has undergone two updates since then, with the most recent series featuring enhanced anti-counterfeiting features. The new series will feature more advanced security features, durable materials, and measures to reduce its environmental impact and production costs.

The redesign is expected to strengthen protection against counterfeiting and make the banknotes more accessible to everyone, including those with visual impairments. ECB President Christine Lagarde says the design of the banknotes symbolizes European integration, representing openness and cooperation through windows, doors, and bridges.
