ECB Opens Public Survey for Future Euro Banknote Designs
The European Central Bank (ECB) has selected 10 design proposals for future euro banknotes based on themes of 'European culture' and 'rivers and birds'. These designs were chosen from over 1,200 applications received in an EU-wide competition. An independent jury of 21 experts narrowed down the selection to these final conceptual solutions.
Citizens of European countries will have their say in a survey on what the euro will look like. This is not limited to countries within the eurozone; citizens of Montenegro, Kosovo, Andorra, Monaco, the Vatican, and San Marino can also participate. These countries use the euro as their official currency based on special agreements with the EU.
The online survey is open to all persons in Europe, allowing citizens outside the eurozone to contribute to the decision-making process. However, the final decision will be taken by the ECB's Governing Council, which will consider both the public survey results and a separate survey of euro area citizens.
