ECB Raises Interest Rates to Combat Euro Area Inflation
The European Central Bank (ECB) has raised interest rates to combat euro area inflation, which accelerated to 3.3 percent in August due to higher energy prices.
According to Ülo Kaasik, interest rate hikes are necessary to bring inflation back toward the two percent target within a couple of years.
The ECB's decision to raise interest rates by 0.25 percentage points has significant implications for financial markets, particularly the deposit facility rate, which will rise to 2.5 percent.
The conflict in the Middle East continues to put pressure on energy prices and affect overall inflation in the euro area.
