ECB Rate Hike Falls Flat Amid Fed-Focused Markets

The European Central Bank (ECB) raised interest rates to 2.5% from 2.25%, but this move did little to boost the euro against the US dollar.

Markets were more focused on the Federal Reserve's (Fed) potential rate hike, driven by accelerating inflation in the US.

The ECB's optimistic tone regarding the economy and inflation was overshadowed by the impact of rising US producer prices and Treasury yields.

US producer price data showed a 0.4% monthly increase, pushing the annual rate to 5.4%, further fueling expectations for a Fed rate rise in September.
