The European Central Bank (ECB) has revealed ten finalist proposals for new euro banknotes, featuring famous figures from European culture and natural landscapes. The competition was open to graphic designers from across the European Union, with over 1,200 submissions received.

The first theme, 'European Culture,' showcases iconic Europeans such as Leonardo da Vinci, Maria Callas, Beethoven, Marie Curie, Miguel de Cervantes, and Bertha von Suttner. Each denomination highlights a different aspect of culture, from performing arts to museums and exhibitions.

The second theme, 'Rivers and Birds,' focuses on waterways and avian species, representing a Europe without borders. The designs feature recognizable animals in natural landscapes, alongside the main European institutions.

Citizens can participate in the official ECB survey until September 21, 2026, to evaluate the various proposals and express their preferences. The new banknotes are expected to be introduced after 2026, but existing notes will retain their value.
