ECB Reveals Shortlisted Euro Banknote Designs Amid Public Feedback Push

The European Central Bank (ECB) has unveiled the 10 shortlisted design proposals for the next series of euro banknotes, which will feature two thematic strands: 'European culture' and 'Rivers and birds'.

The designs emerged from an EU-wide design contest, in which over 1,200 applications were received from graphic designers. Twenty-five of these applicants were invited to create proposals for one or both themes.

ECB President Christine Lagarde emphasized that the new designs will reinforce Europe's shared identity and noted that the two themes chosen - 'European culture' and 'Rivers and birds' - promote values such as freedom, unity, and connection with nature. The public is invited to provide feedback on the proposals through an online survey.

The survey, which can be accessed at https://surveys.ecb.europa.eu/10b/neweuro/, will remain open until September 21st. The final design concept is expected to be selected by the end of the year based on a combination of factors, including the jury's conclusions and the results of the two surveys.
