ECB Seeks Public Input on New Euro Banknote Designs

The European Central Bank (ECB) is set to give the euro banknotes a fresh new look, and they want your input. The ECB has been working on redesigning the notes since late 2021 and has narrowed down the designs to 10 proposals for each of the two themes: European Culture and Rivers and Birds.

For the theme of European Culture, notable historic figures will be featured, while Rivers and Birds will showcase various bird species. The ECB invited professional graphic designers from across the EU to submit their designs, and after reviewing over 1,200 submissions, they shortlisted 25 designers.

The public is now invited to vote for their favorite design online until September 21st. However, it's worth noting that the winning design may not necessarily be adopted for the final series. The ECB will conduct a representative survey of euro area residents and seek input from a jury on the various submissions before making a final decision.

The introduction of the new banknotes is expected towards the end of the 2020s, after which they will undergo detailed development and extensive testing. One of the proposed designs features several EU institutions, including the European Court of Justice and the European Court of Auditors, both located in the Kirchberg district of Luxembourg City.
