ECB Shortlists Maria Callas for €5 Euro Banknote
Greek soprano Maria Callas has been shortlisted to feature on the €5 euro banknote as part of the European Central Bank's (ECB) planned redesign of euro notes.
The proposed 'European culture' theme includes other notable cultural icons, such as Ludwig van Beethoven for the €10 note, Marie Curie for the €20, Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra for the €50, Leonardo da Vinci for the €100, and Bertha von Suttner for the €200.
The ECB has also unveiled an alternative design theme, 'Rivers and birds,' and is inviting people across the European Union to share their views on the proposals until September 21.
